PoNS Therapy™
Innovative, non-surgical medical device that stimulates the neural network flowing to the brain, restoring lost functions.
I am always looking for missing puzzle pieces in my health journey, having lived with MS for over 27 years. The PoNS treatments offered through the SNPC were effective and came with amazing, encouraging staff, all working together to help make my 14-week program be positive and successful. My two biggest accomplishments included being able to balance so that I feel safe and don’t need to lean on something every where I go and having the strength and ability to ride my trike for an hour. Now that I have completed my PoNS treatments, I am noticing I am able to stay more alert while reading a book and I can follow and retain the information much easier; this was an unexpected bonus as we did not focus on improving my cognitive skills during my PoNS sessions! I believe the possibilities with PoNS are endless!
The Surrey Neuroplasticity Clinic is proud to be Western Canada’s first clinic to offer PoNS Therapy™.
About the PoNS Therapy™ Program
PoNS™ (short for Portable Neuromodulation Stimulator) is an innovative, non-surgical medical device that gently stimulates the surface of the tongue, exciting the neural network flowing to the brain. This neural activity is believed to enable neuroplasticity, which may restore lost function. In conjunction with targeted therapeutic activities, the PoNS™ has the potential to restore:
- Balance in individuals with chronic balance deficit due to a mild or moderate traumatic brain injury or concussion.
- Gait in individuals with gait deficit due to mild to moderate symptoms of multiple sclerosis
PoNS Therapy™ is a comprehensive 14-week program that combines in-clinic and in-home use of the PoNS™ device guided by a Certified PoNS™ Trainer.
Following your initial consultations, you will participate in a series of assessments to set a baseline, so you and your Certified PoNS™ Trainer can measure your progress throughout PoNS Therapy™. Assessments may evaluate functions related to balance, gait, walking speed, dexterity, strength and mobility, as well as cognitive measures, sleep quality and headache incidence.
What to Expect
Approximately 74% of the patients who completed the 14 weeks of PoNS Therapy™ in the Long-Term Treatment Trial experienced significant improvement in their balance¹. Patients also showed meaningful improvements in their gait and walking endurance².
